Description:
Mothers day honoring the corn mother ceremony.
Plant corn in the Shakti Spirit Sanctuary fields. Then experience a hands-on cooking class about nixtamalization using last year’s harvest.
Learn the process of nixtamalization.
Grind nixtamalized corn into masa using a metate and a hand crank mill.
Learn how to make masa into tortillas and learn how to make a variety of masa-based foods; arepas, pupusas, huaraches, tetelas etc.
Cook simple traditional New Mexican dishes that emphasize native and local ingredients. Take the recipes home with you.
Feast on tacos and everything you made in class!
